An Urban Break
The concept of the photo shoot came up with an idea of Alexandra (Xander Productions)
to do a video project about urban dance in relation to the environment.
She then decided to elaborate on the initial thought and combine the idea with original hip hop style of the eighties; decorating the notion with vintage clothes from the same era.
From a study of how the already existing architectural structures can be used in the context of art recycling and movement, Alexandra and her assistant Giulia Montanari transformed the environment of an abandoned building with the harmonious movement of a dancer blending the space with vintage garments; transforming the terrain with life and soul.
For the icing of the cake a fair blend of old school hip hop quotes has been mixed into art mash.
“Character, in the long run, is the decisive factor in the life of an individual and of nations alike”

“A lot of times, when people say hip-hop, they don’t know what they’re talking about. They just think of the rappers. When you talk about hip-hop, you’re talking about the whole culture and movement. You have to take the whole culture for what it is.”
“These days you can’t see who’s in cahoots,
Cause now the KKK wears three-piece suits.”
“But this is my life not just a song”

“I’m just disillusioned with the hip-hop sound right now. It’s too materialistic. You know, Im the kind of guy… I can’t do that. If you track my movement, you’ll never see a picture of me with any girl that wasn’t mine, or my own car. My jewellery, my clothes. What kind of gangsta rapper has a stylist? A stylist?!
“Do not let any record company disturb your creative flow. You are not writing for the record company. You’re writing for the public.”
“I’m a reflection of my community”
